Umbilical
This short film en cooperated sound by using minor key music, mainly a piano. The piano sound out of tune and eerie and creates quite an uneasy mood. There are also many non-diagetic sounds played at once, such as moving water, cats, dogs and people talking. There is also many television noises towards the end, they convey a sense of confusion and this is possibly implying the world outisde the comfort of the 'umbilical'
In terms of camera work, there are some low angle shots included, for example the shot looking up at the window from the little boy's perspective. Implying his lack of power and possibly knowledge, and how he is reliant of this chord. A High angle is used looking down on the boy, this with a raised tempo in the music adds a dramatic effect.
In terms of Mise-En-Scene, the main character is in black and white, whereas his drawings and surrounding objects are in colour.
The fact the child is connected to the television perhaps how influenced from an early age children are by the media and are becoming more powerful than a mothers and families influence.
Looking at editing, ofcourse it is an animated film so therefore is all edited. I think it was done this way to reinforce the fact it was about children and was the only way the far-fetched idea could be portrayed.
